Missy wears many hats at ABG but her primary responsibility is recruitment and onboarding of new sales agents. Prior to joining our team, she worked as a Radiation Safety Officer at a private biopharmaceutical research company. Sick of the corporate grind and tired of paying a full-time nanny to raise her children for her, she jumped at the opportunity to make a career change that would allow her more flexibility and more time to spend with them.
Missy first heard about Family Heritage in 2010 from her younger brother, who had just started as a new sales agent. She bought a policy from him even though she didn't think she'd ever need it. In her own words, "I'm pretty skeptical so I doubted it would ever work that well if I did need to use it; but I liked the concept of getting all my money back and the monthly cost was really inexpensive. I really just bought it to do my brother a solid and throw him a "gimme" sale that week."
Fast forward to fall of 2013. Missy & her husband were expecting their first children - twins - and everything was going along smoothly with her pregnancy until suddenly one morning in early August, it wasn't. Her twins were delivered via emergency C-section at 27 weeks gestational age, 3 months too early and severely premature. They weighed a mere 2.5 pounds each and were so tiny that they completely fit into a grown man's hand, and they spent the next 85 days fighting for their lives in a Level III NICU before they could go home.
The months that followed the twins' birth were the most terrifying, difficult, and emotionally exhausting months of Missy's life, and literally the only thing that she and her husband didn't worry about constantly during that time was their bank account and how they were going to pay for all the unexpected expenses. Two of their 3 policies provided coverage for the extended hospital stay, and the benefit money they received from Family Heritage offset all of their financial burden. There was even enough money left over to start small college funds for the twins, who are now thriving, rambunctious 3 year-olds. Missy adds, "I've always believed that everything happens for a reason, but it still blows my mind to look back and remember thinking I was doing my brother a favor by buying those policies from him, and to realize now that in reality, he was the one doing me a favor... a far bigger favor than either of us ever could've imagined at that time. I'm so thankful for what we offer to people and I will always appreciate the hard work that our agents do day after day to get out there and offer something so valuable to people who don't even know that they need it yet."
Fun Fact: Missy served in the United States Navy for 7 years as a Nuclear Machinist's Mate (ELT).
